In the systems with the highest rates of corporal punishment, some individual schools report up to 48%of the student enrollment received corporal punishment. Even in school districts with relatively low percentages of corporal punishment, only one or two schools may be responsible for the numbers of students paddled in that district making rates of corporal punishment extremely high in those schools.
Information for individual schools in the districts listed below is available upon request from Tennesseans for Nonviolent School Discipline. The Office for Civil Rights surveys Tennessee public schools every two years. Results of the 2001-2002 survey will be available in 2004.
