Rubber Boots for kids

Rubber boots are an absolute must-have in every kid's shoe closet. It's no secret that it rains once in a while.

And in Denmark, it rains a lot - and quite often actually. Therefore, a pair of rubber boots for kids is essential in daycare, nursery or kindergarten, where kids are out playing every day in all kinds of weather.

Sometimes, kids think that rain is fun because then there are many puddles to jump in. With a pair of nice and tight rubber boots for kids, you no longer have to worry about whether your kid is out in wet weather because their feet will stay dry.

Rubber Boots in the right size

Normally, we have rubber boots for kids in the following sizes: size 19, size 20, size 21, size 22, size 23, size 24, size 25, size 26, size 27, size 28, size 29, size 30, size 31, size 32, size 33, size 34, size 35, size 36, size 37, size 38, size 39, size 40 and size 41.

At Kids-World, we like to make sure that your kid gets a pair of rubber boots in the size that fits your kid's foot perfectly. It is not always the case that size 24 from one rubber boot brand will be exactly the same as size 24 from another one.

Therefore, we measure all our rubber boots with measuring tape and note how many centimetres corresponsds to a size 24 measured from the inside. In that way, you can measure your kid's foot to find the right size and avoid a boring procedure of having to return rubber boots and then wait for new ones to arrive.

Besides, we also always recommend to consider a growth allowance and add it to the measurements.

When choosing the right size of rubber boots, remember that there should also be some room left for a thick wool sock that will keep the kid's feet warm and thus soak up any foot sweat.

Pay attention to the rubber boots’ width

When looking for a new pair of rubber boots for your child, it is important to pay attention to the width of the rubber boots. And that is because rubber boots are available in different widths, depending on which brand you choose. Some rubber boots are narrower, while others are wider.

If the kid has a narrow foot, add a few millimeters to the length of the foot when choosing a rubber boot, but if the kid has an extra wide foot, add a few extra millimeters.

It can also be a good idea to check if the rubber boots look wide or narrow. Choosing rubber boots with the right width will ensure a high level of comfort when your kid moves around in his/her new rubber boots.

You should also keep an eye on the length of the shaft of the rubber boots. Since smaller kids have shorter legs, it is important to find a pair of rubber boots that are not too long so that they do not hit the kid in the kneecap.

Smart rubber boots for kids

If your kid likes rain and puddles, then rubber boots are a must-have in your home or an institution where your kid spends most of his/her time. At Kids-world, we have a wide selection of various, well-know brands that offer high quality rubber boots for kids, available in many different designs. You will find them in all the colours of the rainbow - either solid-coloured or in a colourful mix.

There are some very classic, solid-coloured rubber boots for kids in neutral colors, and there are also some expressive ones in various vivid colours. You will also find some with smart patterns and beautiful prints in all the colours of the rainbow for both boys and girls.

Some boots also have decorative laces or buckles, and many have reflective details so that the kid is better seen when out in traffic during the dark hours.

Most rubber boots for kids go up to the middle of the calf, some are extra long and reach up to the knees, while other models are short rubber boots for kids that only go up to the ankles. They are also super practical for light rain and a bit warmer months.

Waterproof rubber boots for kids

The primary purpose of rubber boots is to keep the water out and the feet dry. However, a pair of rubber boots can get worn-out in time, and when it comes to rubber boots for kids, this time can sometimes be even shorter than the parents expect and hope for. When rubber boots become worn-out, leaks and holes can occur through which water can penetrate.

An immediate solution for many is to try to patch the rubber boots, and the answer to the question "can rubber boots be patched?" is then also yes. There are various methods and glues with which you can patch a pair of rubber boots, but if the rubber boots are too worn-out then sometimes it is just not worth it.

Then it is a much better idea to invest in a new pair of good, waterproof rubber boots and replace them once they have served their military service.

Rubber boots for kids are fortunately waterproof, and it is nice when the water can not penetrate inside.

But it also means that sweat from inside has a hard time ventilating, which can cause irritations to your kid's feet. That is why it is a good idea to consider rubber boots made of breathable material.

Rubber boots for kids made of natural rubber are more breathable than rubber boots made of other materials, but active kids can still get sweaty feet in the rubber boots, even in those made of natural rubber.

Therefore, it is a good idea to use socks that are sweat-transporting, such as socks made of wool or polyester. Cotton socks, on the other hand, will hold on the sweat and steam from the feet and so will subsequently get wet.

Which rubber boots are the best?

Which rubber boots are best? It is always individual which rubber boots are best - this applies both to yourself and to your child.

When you need to find a new pair of rubber boots, it is important that they - in addition to being waterproof, also fit really well. They must have a good fit and the right size so that they are comfortable to wear.

We therefore recommend that you measure your child's foot when you buy new rubber boots for your child, so that you can more quickly find a pair of rubber boots in the right size and with the right width.

If you are in doubt about which rubber boots to choose, we recommend that you contact our customer service, who will help you find the rubber boots that are best for you.

Long and short rubber boots

You can get rubber boots with several different lengths on the shaft. Therefore, you can get both long and short rubber boots when you shopper rubber boots here at Kids-world.

We have long rubber boots that fit the normal height that most rubber boots have. You can also find short rubber boots here, where you get rubber boots where the height is not much above what you know from a pair of hiking boots.

See our selection of both long and short rubber boots from a long range of brands. You will also find both short and long rubber boots in different colours, so you can find just the pair of rubber boots that fit best with, for example, the set of rainwear that you have lying around at home for the kids.

Rubber Boots for kids made of various materials

Rubber boots for kids and babies come in several types of material. However, many are made of natural rubber. Natural rubber (also called latex) comes from the large rubber trees that grow in plantations in the tropics.

One of the advantages of natural rubber is that it is more breathable than a synthetic one. Natural rubber is very durable and can cope with the Danish weather pretty well.

On the other hand, it is more expensive than other materials. Rubber boots for kids can also be made of thermoplastic, which is also water-repellent, and at the same time, it is a lighter material than natural rubber. However, the breathability is not as high.

Both materials are excellent choices, and each has its advantages and disadvantages, so you have to decide for yourself what is most important.

If your kid says that the rubber boots are warm to wear or maybe complain about sweaty toes and wet socks, then natural rubber will be the best choice.

So far, you have probably come across some terms such as rubber boots free of BPA, phthalates and PAH. Below you will find a quite detailed explanation for each of those above mentioned terms.

BPA in rubber boots

BPA stands for bisphenol A which is a substance that can be found in the plastic-type polycarbonate and the lacquer used on the inside of cans. BPA is on the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's list of undesirable substances, as the EU has concluded that this substance is endocrine-disrupting for humans.

Phthalates in rubber boots

Phthalates are a group of substances whose primary use in industry is to make plastics soft and pliable. Most phthalates are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, but not all of them.

PAH in rubber boots

PAHs are contaminants in raw materials used on, among other things, car seats, clothes and rubber boots.

How to maintain kids’ rubber boots

If you choose a pair of rubber boots made of natural rubber, you will extend the shelf life of the rubber boots if you maintain them correctly. Just as winter boots need to be impregnated once in a while, natural rubber also needs to be maintained to last longer.

Fortunately, there is a smart, inexpensive and easy way to maintain rubber boots made of natural rubber. If you lubricate the rubber boots in brown soap, the rubber will be kept flexible and it will not crack.

Natural rubber contains oils that evaporate just as slowly, and to keep the material supple, it is necessary to add a little extra lubrication.

You can also use natural oils that are suitable for this purpose. However, keep in mind that synthetic oils are not suitable as they can be harmful to the rubber.

It is important to remember not to use silicone-containing products in maintaining your rubber boots, as silicone and natural rubber do not go well together.

If you have kids in the nursery or kindergarten, keep an eye on whether they put the kids' rubber boots in a heating cabinet or drying cabinet, as it has a dull effect on the natural rubber being dried out.

At home, you should not put the rubber boots in front of the stove either or directly in front of the radiator.

Although it is nice to have a pair of warm rubber boots, it is better to let the rubber boots air dry slowly at a lower temperature, as it gives the rubber boots a longer life.

With new rubber boots made of natural rubber, a thin, white film may appear. It occurs when the rubber dries after production, and in the vast majority of cases it can be treated by lubricating the rubber boots with a liquid brown soap.

How to store your kid’s rubber boots properly?

It is important to store your kid's rubber boots in the dark place, away from the direct sunlight. If the rubber boots are exposed to the sun for a long time, the sunlight will possibly dry out the rubber, which can lead to the rubber cracking.

It is also recommended to store rubber boots in a place that has an even temperature. If your kid's rubber boots are made of natural rubber, they will not withstand large temperature fluctuations.

Therefore, it can be a good idea to store the rubber boots inside the house during the winter, and not in a garage, for example.

How to wash rubber boots?

Most parents with kids in kindergarten age have tried to pick up their kid from the institution after a rainy, summer day, finding out that the kid's rain boots are standing in the room, completely soiled in mud, sand, gravel and other stuff. The question then is how to get the rubber boots clean and neat for the next day as well as how to do it the right way?

Fortunately, cleaning rubber boots is perfectly easy, and you can do almost nothing wrong. As mentioned earlier, it is more the drying process that you need to be careful with, as you do not want to dry out the rubber.

When you need to clean rubber boots, you just have to mix a little water with soap and then wipe your boots with a cloth or a brush until they are clean again.

It is also important to remember to wash the inside of the rubber boots as well. That is because there is a risk of bacteria, which are unhealthy and can sometimes cause unpleasant odours.

A sole is not just a sole

The soles vary from the simple ones with small grooves in the bottom to those with strong outer grooves and a deep slip pattern, designed for extra wet and muddy surfaces. Some rubber boots for kids have a fixed insole, while others have a removable one.

These are quite practical, for example, if the rubber boots have gotten wet inside because your boy or girl has sweated in them, or if he or she has been jumping in a very deep puddle. Just take the sole out and let it dry. Then the rubber boots will quickly be ready for more puddles.

With a removable sole, it is also easy to keep track of whether the rubber boots still fit your little one. Take the sole out and let your kid step on it. When you do that, it is easy to see if the foot still fits the length of the sole.Check out the rubber boots for kids category and get your little one prepared for the next rain!
